Featured Rig: A Meticulously Built 200 Series Land Cruiser

Welcome back to the blog! Today, we’re excited to showcase a truly exceptional overland build: a custom 200 Series Land Cruiser that has been a labor of love over the past several years. This incredible rig is back in the shop for some final touches, giving us the perfect opportunity to take you on a detailed tour of its impressive features. This particular build holds a special place for us, as it belongs to a good friend and long-time, valued customer.

A Modern Foundation with Overland Upgrades

Starting with a 2016 or newer facelift model, which we believe Toyota nailed with the updated front-end design, this 200 Series has been transformed into a capable and comfortable overland machine. The front boasts a robust Descent Bumper, providing excellent protection and a rugged aesthetic. Integrated into the bumper is a powerful winch ready for recovery situations, and bright Rigid lights to illuminate the darkest trails. A Safari Snorkel ensures the engine can breathe clean air in dusty or wet conditions.

Protection and Convenience on the Trail

Along the sides, you’ll find Slee Off-Road rock sliders, providing crucial protection for the vehicle’s undercarriage when navigating challenging terrain. On the driver’s side, a Camic 90-degree freestanding awning offers instant shade and shelter, perfect for quick stops or setting up camp.

Moving to the rear, a sturdy Slee Off-Road rear bumper replaces the original. We previously experienced issues with a different bumper flexing into the body, so we upgraded to the reliable Slee bumper for enhanced durability and peace of mind. This setup also includes a Quick Pitch En-Suite on the passenger side, offering a convenient and private outdoor showering or changing space.

The Crown Jewel: A Camptetch Pop Top

Perhaps the most significant upgrade for overland travel is the Camptetch pop top. In our opinion, Camptetch offers a truly exceptional and well-designed pop-top solution. The owner of this 200 Series has opted for this fantastic addition, mirroring our own positive experience with a Camptetch pop top on another build. The ease of deployment and the added headroom it provides truly elevates the overland experience.

Ready to Roll: Tires and Interior Setup

Underneath, this 200 Series rides on 285/70R18 Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires. These are a fantastic all-terrain tire known for their excellent balance of on-road comfort and off-road capability – a personal favorite for many overland enthusiasts.

Inside, the vehicle is currently configured as a comfortable three-seater, with the potential to easily convert back to a four-seater. The rear is thoughtfully organized with recovery gear, including an Olfa jack and MaxTrax recovery boards, essential for self-sufficiency on remote adventures.

The Heart of Camp: A Camptetch Slide-Out Kitchen

A standout feature of this build is the Camptetch slide-out inside/outside kitchen. This beautifully crafted unit includes a convenient paper towel holder and showcases the exceptional quality of Camptetch’s work. The bamboo flooring in the rear compartment adds a touch of elegance and durability. This particular setup features a slightly smaller water tank compared to some other configurations, but it remains a highly functional and space-efficient design.

Upcoming Adventures

The owner is planning on taking this incredible 200 Series out camping very soon, and we’re excited to potentially capture some footage of it in action during its next adventure. Stay tuned for more updates!

Final Thoughts

This custom 200 Series Land Cruiser is a testament to thoughtful planning and high-quality components. It’s a perfect example of how a modern vehicle can be transformed into the ultimate overland platform, offering both rugged capability and comfortable living on the go.
